A Multi-Functional Skirt

There is nothing I love more than a multi-functional skirt. Wear it for work, wear it for play… but please just wear it!

IMG_5014

When I can combine it with a pin-striped blazer and some turquoise accessories, I feel like all is right in the world.

Do you have a multi-functional skirt in your closet?

A Red Dress

This is one of my favorite dresses that I picked up last year at Old Navy. I have worn it a lot over the last year and in fact, I am kicking myself for not buying more colors/styles. It has a bottom liner in it that I love and it’s pin-tucked front is fabulous!

Of course, turquoise accessories because I can’t get enough. And stripped ballet flats instead of wedges because my foot is still healing. :)

Happy Thursday! One week from today is my last day at my old job. Soon after that, I start my new job! But in between? Chicago baby!

Date Night – Concert Time!

We had a crazy busy weekend that included a party at our house, a graduation and a concert. We saw Easton Corbin at The Steifel Theatre in Salina, Kansas. If you don’t like country music then you probably don’t know who he is. I am generally an alternative music listener, but honestly, I have an eclectic taste in music and love every genre.

It was a good concert. I say good because I have seen just about everyone under the sun, so I get really picky about listening to music live. But it was fun and Max and I had some great Mexican eats beforehand, plus got to spend time with the family. All in all, a great night!

I wore this:

And these, which were not the best choice with a swollen foot but I have been dying to break them out:

We went home while the kids went to the bar… what can I say? We are old people and love to be home! Especially when we were getting ready for a party at our house the next night. Max lit the backyard up and it turned out really beautiful. I don’t have any pictures of the party… I was too busy having fun! But I have a Home Sweet Home – The Backyard post coming up and there will be lots of pictures in that.

First Vlog! Lane Bryant Haul

If you want to see me blink way too much, say “um” so many times it’s rather annoying and in general have no idea what I am doing, click below!

But seriously – this was my first video haul that I shot a couple of weeks ago. I am hoping to get better at these over time… But I guess only time will tell! Any feedback would be appreciated. I know you lovely ladies out there do these so well!

A Versitle Wardrobe

Over our very busy weekend, I wore many different outfits. And the thing that struck me was that I have built a versatile wardrobe over the last few years. A wardrobe that does not send me into a panic when I know I have different events coming up. A wardrobe that I know I can easily find what I need and want and be ready at a moments notice. It was a satisfying feeling. I no longer aimlessly shop for “I don’t know what”, but keep a list of pieces I would like to add and when I do shop, specifically look for those items, take my time, find the right one, the one that will last. I tell you, it’s an evolution of thought in regards to my clothing. It feels really good.

To my stepdaughter’s college graduation, I went with a summer dress and blazer. I feel like I can never go wrong with this kind of look. It’s fresh, more than casual but not a suit and can be heavily accessorized, which is my favorite thing to do.

I picked up this dress from Old Navy last year and didn’t wear it over the winter but as soon as the sun started shining again, I couldn’t wait to pull it out.

IMG_5125

Eventually I will get tired of turquoise accessories… right?

IMG_5126

Though I wanted to wear a wedge or little pump, my foot is still recovering and I needed a roomy flat. It still worked for me!

Do you have a versatile wardrobe? How do you keep it that way?

And Happy Mother’s Day to all the lovely mother’s out there!!

Shopping Steal – Little Black Dress

This dress, from the Lane Collection at Lane Bryant, is one of the best buys I have ever gotten. With a 60% off clearance purchase coupon, it was a steal. A deal. It was regularly $98.00 and with my coupon I paid $22.40. Wow. Let us just rejoice in that for a minute, lol.

IMG_4965

The bottom half is so much thinner than the picture online suggested. It pays to read the comments when online shopping! And I could wax poetic about the need for multiple little black dresses… but you guys already know that. :)

IMG_4977

I went with all black. Cause I love all black and gold accessories. Is that a crime I ask you?

IMG_4981

How about you? Get any good deals or steals lately?

OMCZ – Fashion Challenge #6

Outside-My-Comfort-Zone

Every other week, eleven lovely ladies face a fashion challenge in regards to stepping out of their comfort zone and then post about it on their blogs. This is Challenge #6 and it is neon.

I do love a bit of neon in my everyday wear but I find it hard to incorporate that into work wear. And let’s face it – that’s what I wear the most of. I think this dress gives me the best of both worlds. It is suitable for Friday’s at the office and has bits of neon running through it.

IMG_5030

The jacket does have these awesome little pockets that I love. I wish everything had pockets!

So, this is about as close as I come to neon. The upper lining of this dress is a killer lime green neon but I’m a bad blogger and didn’t get a picture!

Thanks for reading this OMCZ Fashion Challenge #6. See ya at the next one!

Forced Relaxation

So, jacking my foot up has taught me that I am a bad patient and I have no tolerance for being lazy. I like to be lazy but only when I really want to be, ya know? But I was a good girl and stayed off my feet all day Saturday. It was like torture. Sunday, I jumped (hobbled) out of bed and to the shower, so I could run early morning errands with Max. We have a concert next Friday night, then a pretty large group coming over for a party Saturday night and my stepdaughter’s college graduation. Sufficed to say, we needed supplies. And a lot of them.

This is me fresh out of the shower and itching to get out of the house. I had no time, er, patience, to style my wet hair. Let’s goooo!!!

IMG_5012

I did a little pattern mixing with the plaid short and florals of my boat shoes. But really? I needed to wear something that was not going to irritate my foot without a brace and would give me some support. They were the only things that felt remotely comfortable.

So, supplies were secured and my lovely husband unloaded everything and put everything away. I can hear him outside right now, cleaning the deck and yard and preparing to wire the twinkle lights. Next weekend cannot come fast enough! Party timeeee!!!

How was your weekend?

A California Girl Maxi Dress

This maxi dress is all about home for me. It makes me think of the Pacific ocean, waves crashing against bare rock, the smell of the surf and seaweed… it’s a total sensory experience.

IMG_4984

Though I have been in Kansas six years now, California is still home. It’s part of my soul and who I am at my core. I love it and think about it everyday. Especially when I wear a dress like this.

IMG_4995

Because I believe in dressing everything up and would never wear a dress like this to the office without one, my brightest blue blazer made the cut. White wedges, my favorite southwestern wrap belt and a turquoise cuff made me feel even closer to the ocean and the desert. See, that’s the thing about us California girls. We have the ocean and the desert. A union of both beautiful worlds.

Do you have anything in your closet that becomes a sensory experience for you when you wear it?

Obsession of the Moment – Mint Green

Obviously these were taken before I hurt my foot. But yeah, it’s gone beyond obsession. I can’t believe how much I love mint green. Why? Why does it haunt my day dreams and night terrors? WHY!?

IMG_4949

I look pretty happy wearing it though, right? HA! That’s because it owns me right now. Note to self: get help!

IMG_4961

On a side note – this canvas tote was purchased on deep clearance at Target for $12.99, regularly $59.99. It is from the Neiman Marcus collection and was designed by Oscar de la Renta. How amazing is that?

IMG_4962

Are you having any obsessions of the moment?
